# Back up and restore your Terraria world

> Use scheduled and on-demand backups and restore compatible world and mod data.

## Backup coverage

Each Terraria plan includes daily automatic backups and the same on-demand storage allowance as the corresponding Minecraft plan. Backups include the service files and supported service database data. Worlds, modded `.twld` companion files, installed mods and configuration should be restored together.

Open **Server → Backups** to review completed backups, create an on-demand backup, download one or restore it. A queued or running backup is not a completed recovery point. Check its final status and reported errors. The quota shown is shared according to your plan; delete unneeded on-demand snapshots when necessary.

## Before changes

Create a backup before upgrading or downgrading Terraria/tModLoader, replacing a world, changing mod packs or deleting databases. Also download an independent copy of valuable world files.

## Restore

Choose a compatible completed backup and follow the restore confirmation. Restoring replaces current service data. Select a pre-restore safety backup when offered if you need a way back. Do not upload or edit files during a restore. Wait for the restore task to finish, start the server if needed, inspect Console and join with the matching client and mods.

A backup made with one mod set may require that same set to load correctly. Retaining a world file alone cannot recover content removed by loading it without its mods.

Terraria saves and briefly stops while a backup copies the world files, then restarts automatically if it was running. Uploading the backup continues after the server restarts. Restores also stop the server before replacing files. Plan for a brief player disconnect; stopped servers stay stopped.
